Upgrade ASA

Following steps can be used to upgrade a CISCO ASA:

  1. Check the space in flash memory:
    asa#show flash | inc free
  2. Verfiy the current ASA and ASDM version:
    asa# show version
  3. Copy the ASA image file from tftp server to flash:
    ASA#copy tftp flash:
    Address or name of remote host []? 192.168.2.1
    Source filename []? asa921-smp-k8.bin
    Destination filename [asa921-smp-k8.bin]?
    Accessing tftp://192.168.2.1/asa921-smp-k8.bin...
    
    ASA#copy tftp flash:
    Address or name of remote host []? 192.168.2.1
    Source filename []? asdm-72145.bin
    Destination filename [asdm-72145.bin]?
    Accessing tftp://192.168.2.1/asdm-72145.bin...
    
  4. Configure ASA to use new images:
    asa# configure terminal
    asa(config)# boot system flash:/asa921-smp-k8.bin
    INFO: Converting flash:/asa921-smp-k8.bin to disk0:/asa921-smp-k8.bin
    asa(config)# asdm image flash:/asdm-72145.bin
    asa(config)#
  5. Write the changes:
    asa(config)#write memory
  6. Reload:
    asa# reload
    Proceed with reload? [confirm]
